The Blue Heron Guest House in Darien, GA was opened in 2015 after being rebuilt from the ground up as a traditional owner-occupied and -operated bed and breakfast inn. It successfully operated as such until it was shut down in 2020 due to Covid and subsequently sold to the current owners.
After some additional cosmetic upgrades, it was re-opened as a remotely operated whole-house vacation rental, which has built a substantial following with eco-tourists and others who want to experience the beauty and serenity of Georgia’s coastal marshes.
Each of the guest rooms has direct access to elevated, wrap-around decks, which offer spectacular, elevated waterfront views, private in-room seating areas, and luxurious en-suite bathrooms. Two dining areas, a large living room/entertainment center, and an open kitchenette complete the indoor common areas…and outside, even more decks, a dock, patio grill, a dock for water-toy access, and a fire pit area on the point make this inn a destination unto itself, even without being within view of the Sapelo Island ferry.
Resident innkeepers will appreciate the huge owner’s suite (also with its own deck and views!), the chef’s kitchen, backup generator, and even a freight lift that help make this property a fully viable business…which could be further expanded with the 2 additional lots included with the sale.
