Owner's Quarters
While there is not an owner’s area within the main inn building, the 2 unit apartment building (included with the sale) could provide excellent onsite accommodations for an owner-operator. The 2BR/1.5BA space (sold furnished) has just over 1800 square feet, and the other unit – with almost 3000 square feet – has 3 bedrooms & 2.5 baths. Any unused space could be converted to additional guest space for the inn or used as long-term rental to stabilize cash flow.
Why Current Owners Love Living in the Area
In short, Suzy and I love living in Brenham because all our needs and many of our wants are met. When you need the services or adventure that only a big city can provide, you have only to decide which direction you’d like to drive, and both Houston (east) and Austin (west) are less than an hour and a half away, and if you need that college town experience, College Station is only forty-five minutes away (north).
But having a lot to do and see is not what makes Brenham a great place to live. It’s the people. Brenham is a place where you actually know your neighbors, and not just the ones next door and across the street. The business owners and employees that you visit do remember your name. You will run into friends at the post office, and see the restaurateurs stocking up at the grocery store and meat market because they were having a busier day than they had anticipated. The folks at the bank will welcome you by name, and ask how they can help you today.
Additional highlights include:
- Many parks, with many opportunities for recreation and even competition. There are many activities and sports for children to participate in as well, including swimming, soccer, softball, baseball, basketball and football. There are also music academies and choral groups for kids. And don’t forget pickleball, though that is mostly for the adults. If you enjoy baseball especially, you’ve come to the right place. Benham is considered the Baseball Capital of Texas, as more major league baseball players have come from Brenham High School than any other high school in the state, and Blinn College’s baseball team routinely qualifies for the Junior College Baseball National Championship Tournament, and last year won it all. There is also a very large community of Mahjong players in Brenham and Washington County. It’s a very rare day that you can’t find a game!
- Robust public schools, along with several private schools, as well as a vibrant home-school community, and Blinn College was established as the first college (Blinn is a two-year junior college) in the state that is supported by the County’s residents. As a result, if you have a student who is thinking of going to college, the first two years of basics can be obtained at Blinn for an incredibly reasonable price for county residents. Plus, graduates of Blinn have an automatic acceptance at Texas A&M University, Baylor University and Mary Hardin Baylor University.
- Downtown nightlife, with at least three (3) bars that present live music on the weekends, as well as a brewery and several wineries in downtown and the county. Plus, The Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre, a 1925 Vaudeville and movie theater that has been renovated to its original grandeur, presents a variety of traveling shows, as well as the occasional movie. Then there’s Unity Theatre, which is a live PROFESSIONAL theatre, not a community theatre. Unity brings in talent from all over the country to perform at least four Main Stage Shows per season, in addition to two smaller theatre Studio Shows that usually have smaller casts and present performances with more of an edge to them. Finally, Unity contributes to the educational sphere of Brenham as well, with summer acting classes for students and a play performed by the children to close out the season.

Brenham, Texas is found in the heart of the “Texas Triangle”: Dallas/Fort Worth to the north; San Antonio to the southwest and Houston to the east. This triangle includes Austin and Waco. Within the Texas Triangle lives over 70% of the population of the State of Texas, meaning that Brenham is within a three-and-one-half hour drive of 70% of the population of the State of Texas. This makes Brenham a fantastic central location for business meetings and an easy leisure travel destination as long as the tourism industry is healthy, which it very much is.
The world famous Round Top Antiques Market is held twice a year just 20 miles away, and College Station Texas – home of Texas A&M University – are also both major draws for guest traffic.
